This answer was rated:

I am awaiting the installation of more memory in my MacBook, but that is a couple of weeks away. My questions:
I use Microsoft Office, not Pages or Numbers; also, I don't use FaceTime. If I take them off the Dock, will I get more memory? If so, how do I remove them? Is it adviseable to delete them. If so, how do I delete them? I need more memory until I can get my new chips installed.

Steve Herrod :

Hi, I'll be happy to help with this issue

Steve Herrod :

can you go to the Apple Menu and choose About this Mac and let me know the system details listed there?

Customer:

OS 10.8

Customer:

Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Customer:

Memory 2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

Steve Herrod :

thank you

Steve Herrod :

in terms of memory 2GB should be fine for general usage

Steve Herrod :

is it hard drive space which is becoming more of a problem?

Customer:

It is.

Steve Herrod :

ok

Steve Herrod :

removing items from the dock won't remove them from the machine - it just removes the shortcut from the dock

Steve Herrod :

to remove any unwanted applications

Steve Herrod :

if you open up the Macintosh HD icon on the desktop

Steve Herrod :

and then open the Applications folder

Steve Herrod :

let me know when you are there

Customer:

I am there.

Steve Herrod :

ok

Steve Herrod :

so to remove any application

Steve Herrod :

you simply drag it from here to the trash

Customer:

Will deleting them give me more memory?

Steve Herrod :

yes, deleting them from here will free up space

Customer:

If I delete them, will I be able to get them back in the future, should I feel the need?

Steve Herrod :

yes, apps like Facetime etc would be available from the App Store if required

Customer:

Thanks. I'll delete those and see what happens.

Steve Herrod :

you're welcome
