Microsoft Office Questions? Ask a IT Expert for Support ASAP
Hello, I am Pete, and I'll be happy to assist with your question today.
There are a number of reasons why this error may occur.
Try the following:
Open Excel, then go to Options, select Advanced and then scroll down to the "General" section. Make sure that "Ignore other applications that use
Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)" is not checked.
The file extension is the end part of the file name, e.g. .xls or .xlsx
This problem may be the result of a corrupt registry entry.
To fix this automatically, go to the following website and under More Information, click 'Fix It': http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541
You may need to reload the software if it was installed after the system restore date that you select. You can always undo the restore if the effects are undesired.
i have looked at system restore & have done this many times in the past BUT....all the restore points check points are NOT there???
This time it shows...SYSTEM IMAGE RESTORE POINT & FROM 3 MONTHS AGO..AAAAAAARRRRRGH
This will be the only way forward for you if Excel continues to have the undesired effects, apart from entirely reinstalling Windows.
System Restore only restores critical system files and some program files and registry settings. It does not affect personal files, such as e-mail, documents, or photos, so you don't need to worry about losing anything important.
