how to create .wav file in mac?
Hello! My name is XXXXX XXXXX self-employed tech, and I'm offering my time in good faith today to provide advice and information. What format is the source file currently in?Thanks,John
There is no file at this point. According to my school assignment I have to create "sound" file with extension .wav. I'm very new to mac. Please guide me through the process of creating such a file.
Okay, what do you need to put in the sound file? Do you have to record something or can it be anything (such as converting a song to a .wav file)?
My own voice for about 1 min long
Okay, do you have a mac with a built in Microphone (Most any recent iMac or MacBook should have one)?
i don't know. My husband just purchased it for me. I hope it has microphone. Is there any particular location I should look for one?
Is it an iMac or a MacBook? If there is a camera near the top of the screen then you most certaily have a mic as well.
It's mac I I do have a camera on top of the screen
Great.Since you may not get a lot of use out of this app, you'll likely want to try something free first."Audacity" is a popular choice and can produce many output formats.http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/macDownload the first choice on this page. Double-click the downloaded .dmg to mount itThen to install Audacity you only need to copy the "Audacity" folder from the newly mounted .dmg to /Applications or any other location of your choosing (even the Desktop is fine).Once this is done, we can focus on the recording...
I've been challenged, but I believe it has been done. What's next?!
Okay, great! Now, you'll want to open the Audacity folder that you copied and then double-click the Audacity app to start it.If all goes well, the app should be ready to go and work with the hardware in your Mac without need to configure. There may be a lot of confusing buttons on screen but only a few you should need to worry about. The record button:The pause button:and the Stop button to cease recording:The buttons may look slightly different for you but the symbols should be the same. You should also see a couple volume controls to help control the recording, if needed. You can play around with the above until you get the hang of the application. When you are ready to save something:click the File menu and choose "Export as WAV". This should then allow you to name and save the file to a location you desire.Hopefully, this info will answer your question. If you continue to have questions on this topic, just reply back to this discussion. I will be more than happy to work with you further. How to erase my trial recording and how to save need recording into the file?
Clicking on File > New should create a brand new empty "project" window for you.If you want to save a recording as a wav file, just use the previously mentioned option to click the File menu and choose "Export as WAV".
Thank you. I think I got it. I'll be working on my recording tomorrow. If I'll have any challenges, is there any number/e-mail I may contact you directly? Thanks a million for your assistance.
