When I open Streets and trips, I get a message"registry settings for this application were not copied correctly. To correct these settings, run setup again for this application from the location where you installed it. I reinstalled from my installation disk and I still get the same message. What now?
Hello and thanks for choosing Just Answer. My name is XXXXX XXXXX X'll be happy to assist you.Did this problem just start or is this the first time you are trying to use Streets and Trips? Are you using Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7?
Just started, I believe it was caused when I ran Iola system Mechanic
OK are you using Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7?
7
Alright in that case the first thing we are going to try is a System Restore to a point before IOLA System Mechanic was installed. Let me know if you have already done this. This is the easiest way to fix this problem, but it doesn't always work so please let me know if it doesn't work for you!
I picked an early june restore point and my computer is still working on restoring the registry
OK keep me posted. It usually takes about 20 minutes if we go back further than a week.
Starting Windows now....What do you think of System Mechanic?
Honestly, I don't use or recommend the use of any of those type of programs. I don't trust them (mostly because of problems like these). No computer I have ever serviced has been slow due to registry errors, etc. Truthfully I just run Microsoft Security Essentials (http://www.windows.com/mse) as my antivirus/antimalware program (its free) and that's about it. If you find that your computer is operating slower than you like, you can check out the Startup folder (Start -> All programs -> Startup) and remove anything you don't actually use. In addtion you can use the Programs and Features applet (in Control Panel) to remove old programs you are not really using.Hopefully the system restore fixes us up, let me know if not!
Same message with Streets and Trips, should I go to an earlier restore? I believe it was about a month ago when I installed it.
A month ago when you installed System Mechanic? Yes I would recommend trying a restore point from before then.
I would have gone back farther but I couldn't get it to give me an earlier date. I will try again.
OK if there isn't an earlier one (there may not be) let me know and we will try some different fixes. Thanks!
I am certain that there are more points, but how do I get there? When I click on show more restore it does not go farther back.
There may not be more points. Windows only saves so many of them so as not to take up too much room on your computer. If you are clicking Show More Restore Points and you are not seeing anything listed in May then they just are not there. Are you click the back arrow next to the word June to go back to May?
The page says scan for affected programs, but that didn't seem to help. I can't see any way to get back earlier than June 8. When I click next, it takes me back to the first page.
OK no worries; let's try this another way. Please do the following for me:
After doing all that, insert the Streets and Trips CD and start the install again. On the third page of the wizard, in the Install To box, delete the and Trips portion of the line, then click Next. Complete the wizard and try Streets and Trips.
Let me know what happens! Thanks.
I don't see streets and trips on the list under microsoft.
OK the removal may have gotten rid of it (that's a good thin). Go ahead and proceed with the reinstall of Streets and Trips, but please note that on the third page of the installation you need to change the Install To path. I usually just delete the and Trips part of the path and then click Next.Let me know how it goes!
I reinstalled. Same message about bregistry settings.
And you changed the path? If you right click the Streets and Trips icon and choose Run as administrator does it open properly?
I deleted the & streets on the third page. I do not get a run as administrator choice when I right click the icon.
I apologize for the delay. Please do this:
Windows has just started installing an update and tells me not to power of. Sorry, Just a minute.
No worries I will be here!
Can I work with you on a case by case basis? I am looking for someone good to help when I have problems. I think I am pretty good with computers, but in todays climate I would like to work with someone that I can trust.
Absolutely. Anytime you have a question just put Erik B in the question or go directly to my profile page at:http://www.justanswer.com/computer/expert-ErikB/
when I search streets.exe, I get the same registry settings message.
OK did you right click it and choose Properties? If so you should see a screen like this:Click the Compatibility tab and then click the Run this program as administrator box. Click OK, then start Streets and Trips.
It says activate now, enter your product key over the internet or by phone. I have the key. What next?
Go ahead and enter the key and then activate over the Internet. Let me know if it won't activate.
It tells me to buy it or get a free trial
Is there no place to enter your product key?
When I closed that screen, the program was open under it. It works....Why?
There is something corrupted in your user profile (probably by System Mechanic). This corruption is preventing Streets and Trips from starting properly. When you run a program as administrator it basically bypasses your user profile and runs the program under the administrator profile. You have a couple of choices here.
Let me know which way you are leaning. I can provide instructions on creating a new user account for yourself if you wish to go with option 1 or 2. Thanks!
It is allowing me to open it from the Icon. I am restarting to see if it will continue to work after a restart. I may have another problem, are you interested. It is unusual, I can't open a new Quicken program that I just bought.
Certainly. Just let me know after your reboot what error you are getting when you open the Quicken program. Streets and Trips should continue to operate normally under the Run As Administrator mode, which we have checked the box for. Thanks!
Streets runs fine when I click the Icon. I can run other programs also. It does ask me if I want to allow the program to make changes to my computer after I click to open icon. I say yes and it opens.
I do get an error message that says unable to start the bluetooth stack service on startup. I don't think that I use that
No the Bluetooth Stack is only used to pair your computer with Bluetooth devices. If you are not using any Bluetooth Devices then this will not affect you. You can remove the Bluetooth error by removing it from startup:
As for the 'Allow Changes' prompt, that is normal when running a program as administrator in Windows 7. You can continue to just click Yes with no harm.
I think that should take care of everything on this particular question, but please let me know if you need any further clarification or if you have trouble using the System Configuration utility. You can do so by using the Continue Conversation link.
Also please let me know if you want to work on the Quicken problem by opening an additional question. I unfortunately have to log off for this evening (it's 11:30PM ET) but will be back first thing in the morning.
Thanks so much!
Thanks, I will contact you tomorrow about the Quicken Problem. When I run setup, it starts installation but never completes.
Do you think running System Mechanic could have caused these problems?
I will look forward to your question!Yes I think System Mechanic may have contributed to these issues. One thing to try with the Quicken install is to right click the installation program and choose Run as administrator. It may go through that way, but let me know if not! Thanks again!
