ITPeter :

Hello,

ITPeter :

I am Pete, and I'll be happy to assist you today.

ITPeter :

Can you please let me know:
- What is the name of the presentation software you are using? (e.g. MS PowerPoint 2010)
- What operating system are you using? (e.g. Windows 7)

Customer :

Windows 7 and Powerpoint 2007

ITPeter :

Ok, thanks for that.

ITPeter :

Can you try pressing the ALT + F keys on your keyboard.
Let me know if the PowerPoint menu responds?

Customer :

The start icon highlighted but all the powerpoint function keys are still not working

ITPeter :

Are you using a laptop or a desktop computer?

Customer :

laptop

ITPeter :

What happens when you click on the items on the menu bar?

Customer :

nothing

ITPeter :

Ok, please check if the Function key on your keyboard is turned off. This will have the effect of disabling the function keys.

ITPeter :

Depending on what laptop you have, it may be labelled as Fn, F-Lock, or something else.

Customer :

i was able to minimize the open program and tried to reopen power point. it says i have a dialgoue box open and must close it in order to continue

ITPeter :

Ok, press the ALT+TAB keys to switch through any open programs or dialogue boxes.
If you find an open PowerPoint dialogue box, close it.

Customer :

I hit alt +tab and and a series of icons, word, PP, int exp, pop up. What does that mean?

ITPeter :

You can hold the ALT button and press TAB to select the various programs or dialogue boxes that may be open.

ITPeter :

If you find an open PowerPoint dialogue box, close it.

ITPeter :

If you cannot find any open dialogue boxes and the problem persists, try rebooting the laptop and then open the presentation again.

Customer :

It just shows a powerpoint icon. is that what I close and if so how? as soon as I let go of alt it disappears and takes me to the presentation

ITPeter :

That is the icon for the main presentation.

ITPeter :

I think you will need to try rebooting the laptop and then open the presentation again.

Customer :

I failed (like an idiot ) to save my work. I think this autosaves but Im not sure. tried to save it to another presentation via thumbdrive but it wont let me open any PP presentation on it.

Customer :

Still drive on with the reboot?

ITPeter :

Yes

Customer :

one last thing before i try this. one the bottom left of the screen there is an icon that looks lke an open book. It has a red X over it. don't think it was like that before.

ITPeter :

Does it only appear in PowerPoint, or on all screens?

Customer :

only pp

ITPeter :

Without seeing it, I am not sure what it is.
Can you right-click on it or select it?

Customer :

no

Customer :

do you think this will auto save if i shut it down?

ITPeter :

If you want to save it before shutting down, try pressing CTRL+S

Customer :

k

Customer :
