Purchased microsoft office home and student 2010 on October

Customer Question

Purchased microsoft office home and student 2010 on October 28, 2011 . Ran into problems with my computer because I accidentally did a reconfiguration when trying to solve printer problem. Have since updated computer with microsoft updates. Am unable to get office to come up without showing error report and having to shut down. Also it is very important that I can find my documents from microsoft word 2010.

Hello,

Travis B. :

Alright, what error messages are you getting?

Also what exactly what was wrong with the computer?

JACUSTOMER-87nccs06- :

Report box saying microsoft word has run into a problem and has to shut down. Asks if I want to report the problem or not. Printer was flashing and when asked to print said it was disconnected. I checked cables and installation but all were fine. So I start clicking on things and found one that said something about hardware.

Travis B. :

Alright, and that is what word is saying now..

JACUSTOMER-87nccs06- :

I don't have it open now. Shall I attempt to open it again?

Travis B. :

yes, please let me know what error you get

JACUSTOMER-87nccs06- :

Microsoft has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Send error report. Dont send.

Travis B. :

click send error report..and see if it shows more details..

Travis B. :

This is office 2010, student?

Travis B. :

Also is this for all of the office programs or just word?

JACUSTOMER-87nccs06- :

This is microsoft office 2010 home and student. It says preparing error report, restarting computer. It keeps coming up and stopping me from responding to you.

Travis B. :

I'm sorry and I understand you may close word for now.

trying opening like excel..and see if that too has an issue.

JACUSTOMER-87nccs06- :

Tried microsoft excel. Says preparing to install, showing a grid template.

Travis B. :

Alright, so that opened without issues..?

JACUSTOMER-87nccs06- :

yes.

JACUSTOMER-87nccs06- :

yes

Travis B. :

Alright, well thats good to know.

You may need to reinstall the software. Do you have a legal copy ? Do you have the product key ?

You can try going to

control panel / add remove programs

select the office 2010 and click change

then click repair.

You can uninstall it using the same control panel / add remove programs

then reboot

go to this link and download a trial version that will be good for 60 days

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/try/

If you have already used the 60 days on the last trial version it probably wont work and that would be the reason it isnt working now.

If you do have a legal purchased copy you can use the same product key to turn this trial version into a paid version

How long ago did this happen ? If not very long ago try doing a system restore to a few days before the problem occured.

If that doesnt fix it right away.

Disable your firewall and antivirus programs temporarily

download a new trial version

Uninstall the old versions using the revo uninstaller

http://download.cnet.com/Revo-Uninstaller/3000-2096_4-10687648.html

make sure that you get only the revo uninstaller it is on the left in green that says download now. dont do the "recomended downloads" which are ads for registry tuners that probably do more damage than good and cost money as well.

reboot and install a fresh copy of the trial version from the ms website

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/try/

Lastly, do a search for normal.dotx

Then delete any copies that you find.

And then open word again

You are welcome! Glad I could be of assistance, If you need anymore help please ask, otherwise have a good night and god bless! Smile Please accept so I can be compensated for my time/work, also feedback and bonus' are highly appreciated!

Travis, I just finished copying all of your instructions, but I do have some concerns before I attempt any of this. First, I just purchased this edition ,if you noted ,on Oct . 28, 2011. I purchased the 3 downloads for 149.95. That was only five days ago today. I want some guarantee for my puchase - about getting what I paid for. I have tried to call, but they keep referring me to this tech service. I don't want a trial version, I want what I paid for. Yesterday evening I did follow the directions for reinstalling this and look where it got me. How do I cancel this transaction because now digital river wants to charge me for their services after their installation instructions don't work. Please help me. Also, I see that my urgency is marked at medium with a level of detail at medium, when I adjusted for high with an extreme urgency. I need to find my saved documents from the 28 and 30 becuase I must have them for work by tomorrow. Is this guaranteed ? How do I know?

How do I reboot?

Alright, well thats good to know.

You may need to reinstall the software. Do you have a legal copy ? Do you have the product key ?

You can try going to

control panel / add remove programs

select the office 2010 and click change

then click repair.

You can uninstall it using the same control panel / add remove programs

then reboot

go to this link and download a trial version that will be good for 60 days

If that doesnt fix it right away.

Disable your firewall and antivirus programs temporarily

download a new trial version

Uninstall the old versions using the revo uninstaller
