Viet - MS Office Tech :

Hi, and thanks for using JustAnswer.com.

Viet - MS Office Tech :

Windows 7 does not have Outlook express, but you can download and install the new Microsoft email program called, Windows Live Mail at
http://explore.live.com/windows-live-mail

Customer:

does it have import and export?

Viet - MS Office Tech :

Yes, let me write the steps to move your emails.

Customer:

that would be a great help.

Viet - MS Office Tech :

First, make sure to install Windows Live Mail on the windows 7 computer first.

Viet - MS Office Tech :

From the old windows xp computer, open My computer, then click on Tools menu on the top, then click on Folder Options. Then:

  1. Click the View tab.

  2. Under Advanced settings, click Show hidden files, folders, and drives, and then click OK.

Viet - MS Office Tech :

Then open the C: drive, and go to Documents and Settings\your user name\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{a long string folder}\Microsoft\ and copy the whole Outlook Express folder to the new computer (transfer to the Desktop)

Viet - MS Office Tech :

Then open the Windows Live Mail program from the new Windows 7 computer and run the email account setup (if you need help, please let me know your email provider, such as hotmail, yahoo, gmail, etc). Then:

  1. Click on the File down arrow menu on the top left, and then click Import messages.

  2. Select Outlook express, and then click Next.

  3. Click Browse.

  4. Navigate to the Outlook Express folder on your Desktop.

  5. Click OK, and then click Next.

  6. Leave All Folders selected, and then click Next.

  7. When it's done, click Finish.

Viet - MS Office Tech :

(It will likely take a long time to import the messages).

Viet - MS Office Tech :

To transfer the address book, from the old computer, go to C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book, then copy the enduser.wab to the new computer.
Then from the new computer:

  1. Open Windows Live Mail, click Contacts at the bottom left.

  2. On the Home tab, click Import, and then click the windows address book option

Then browse to the enduser.wab file to import the address book.

Viet - MS Office Tech :

Please let me know if there is still any issue later. Thank you.
