I purchased microsoft office home and student 2010 and installed it about 2 months ago. Today I went to my excel spreadsheet and not excel, poerpoint, microsoft word are all saying "Cannot verify the license for this product. You should repair the office program by using control panel". engr.najeeb :

Hello, and welcome to JustAnswer!

engr.najeeb :

Actually Office Home and Student 2010 do not include license for publisher, thats why you got the notification that it was unlicensed.

engr.najeeb :

For the other part, have you tried repairing Office?

Customer :

ok....no i havent

engr.najeeb :

Do you know how to?

Customer :

no...help

engr.najeeb :

Ok.

engr.najeeb :

What is the operating system on your computer.

engr.najeeb :

Windows XP/7/Vista?

Customer :

7

engr.najeeb :

Ok.

engr.najeeb :

Click start and in search box, type Add or Remove Programs

engr.najeeb :

and press Enter.

engr.najeeb :

It will open Add or Remove Programs dialog.

Customer :

ok...next

engr.najeeb :

In that dialog, locate Microsoft Office 2010 and click Uninstall/Change button.

engr.najeeb :

This will open Office uninstall/change dialog box.

Customer :

ok what do i click

engr.najeeb :

Select the Repair option in that dialog and follow prompts to complete repair.

Customer :

there is only uninstall and change...no repair option

engr.najeeb :

Click Change option.

Customer :

now it says repair remove or enter product key

engr.najeeb :

Now click Repair.

Customer :

ok i'm running it...let's see what happens

engr.najeeb :

Ok. I will standby.

Customer :

ok i restarted computer after the repair....and still says uninstalled

Customer :

i mean unlicensed

engr.najeeb :

I see.

engr.najeeb :

Do you have the office installation key with you?

Customer :

yes....product key

engr.najeeb :

Getting exactly the same error as before? C

engr.najeeb :

"Cannot verify the license for this product....

Customer :

yes same error

engr.najeeb :

Do you have more than one versions of Office installed on your computer by any chance?

engr.najeeb :

e.g. did you use trial version of office before installing the licensed one?

Customer :

no...this is a brand new computer

engr.najeeb :

I am afraid you need to re-install Office by first uninstalling it using the following tool.

engr.najeeb :

Open the following link and click Fix it Tool for 2010

engr.najeeb :

This will remove your Office from your computer completely.

engr.najeeb :

Once removed, restart computer and check.

engr.najeeb :

I hope this helps.

Customer :

can i use the same product key

engr.najeeb :

Yes.

Customer :

r u sure they wont try and charge me

engr.najeeb :

Yes, they won't charge you :)

Customer :

engr.najeeb :

Yes.

Customer :

ok...i started running the uninstall program....now the prompts are gone...does that mean it's done or that the computer is thinking?

engr.najeeb :

Did you get any notification that uninstall was completed?

Customer :

no the last thing it said was starting the repair

engr.najeeb :

Ok.

Customer :

and a prompt said...do you want to allow this program to change files...and i clicked yes...that's it

Customer :

do you think it's running the program...or what...i think it just stopped

engr.najeeb :

Run Word and see if you get that prompt again.

Customer :

Customer :

engr.najeeb :

Right click on task manager and click Start Task manager.

engr.najeeb :

Click processes tab.

Customer :

Customer :

engr.najeeb :

You mean in Task Manager?

Customer :

ok ...clicked processes

Customer :

ok clicked processes

engr.najeeb :

Do you see msiexec.exe process?

Customer :

no

engr.najeeb :

Ok. Then restart your computer.

Customer :

bye

engr.najeeb :

:) bye for now.

engr.najeeb :

If you still get the same prompt, uninstall office from control panel the same way as you ran repair but this time choosing the uninstall option.

engr.najeeb :

Once removed, restart and re-install office. I hope this helps.

engr.najeeb :

Regards

Customer :

hello...looks like office is gone...now what?

Customer :

r u still available?

Customer :

engr.najeeb :

Hi again. :)

engr.najeeb :

Did you re-install Office after uninstall?

engr.najeeb :

If not, please re-install and check how it goes. Let me know.
