Customer Question

2004 mercury sable, dash board clicked after shut off. On start up mpg data reset and now fluctuating. Prior history, intake manifold was replaced, fuel pump replaced. This clicking started had happened prior to these repairs and now here it is again. Car only has 47000 miles on it. Also, and this might be me, car really doesn't seem to have a lot of pep to it. I have had a tune up within the last 3000 miles also.

Welcome, I'm Chris (aka Moose) I'm an independent contractor here at Just Answer.

Can you tell where in the dash this clicking is coming from?

Can you make it click when adjusting anything while its running?

On startup does the instrument cluster act odd?

This low power issue, is at all rpms and speeds?

Thanks for asking your question and letting me try to help you.

I really can't pin point the clicking more than "the dash above/around the steering wheel"
Never tried adjusting anything, as the car is turned off.
Yes, the mpg data is whacked on start up
Seems to be at low speeds

Thanks, ***** ***** touch the fuse panel and other things under the dash to try and pinpoint what is clicking?

While the car is off, if you have manual climate control, change the settings to see if this has any effect?

Once driving does the average mpg register correct?

Any fuel gauge concerns?

A low speeds when lacking power, does it seem like it is in the correct gear and are there odd engine noises?

Since the clicking does not occur on every shut down, I will have to wait until the next time this happens to respond again.
