Mercury Mountaineer 4x4: I've got a 2003 mercury mountaineer

Customer Question

I've got a 2003 mercury mountaineer that the check gauge light comes on and the oil pressure gauge drops to zero. The light will go out and the pressure goes back to normal. Would this be caused by the oil pressure sending unit causing this?

You are correct in thinking it is the oil pressure switch. It is actually not a real oil pressure switch. It is really an on off switch. When oil pressure gets tot he proper designed level, the gauge will read, if equipped and the light will turn off. When the pressure is too low below specs, the gauge will drop and the oil ight will come on.
