my mercury mystique 1998 V6 will not start.Replaced the catalic conv, O2 sensor, Crank shaft sensor and it still wont start.There is a big smell of gas coming from the car? any help? Also before this fuel pump was replaced and water pump also.

Ok, there's a few things you need to do first; Bare with me here
Please keep in mind that I do not know your skill level on this subject, so I may be asking you questions for clarification purposes.
If the check engine light has come on, you will need to have the computer checked for codes. Most parts stores will do this for you at no charge for vehicles 1996 and up.
If the engine does not crank at all, check the battery, starter, solenoid and the cables first.
If the engine cranks but won't start, check all the below items.

thank you for your response.I took the car to a shop they sayits a security issue something to do with the alarm.They are charging me 600 dollars.That does not sound right to me.What do you think?
