2005 Mercury Mountaineer tire pressure sensor fault
Country: United StatesMake: MercuryModel: MountaineerYear: 2005 Already Tried: Service guys had no clue. Ford told me to disconnect the battery fill tires and then reconnect to reset. I also here a load chirping noise periodically when driving not sure if it is related. This seems to be an optional device, can I just remove? My gut tells me that the sensors in the tires were removed when I got new tires.

Hi, I’m Chris. Welcome and thanks for asking your question!
Sorry about the long delay in getting back to you. Unfortunately there is no way to bypass nor remove this setup it is a government mandated accessory. You stated you got new tires, that is 95% likely to be to problem. the tire changer damaged the sensor inside the wheel during the tire change and there is nothing you can do at this point until the tire sensor is replaced. Your dealership also told you incorrect, that reset procedure will not work when you have a fault. it will with a low tire pressure warning but not with a fault. The dealer has to re-train the sensors to fix a fault.
.
