Hello and welcome to Justanswer,
My name is XXXXX XXXXX I am here to assist you with your question.

Automatic or standard?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
automatic
Expert:  Ron replied 6 years ago.

Your 1999 2.5 only came with one automatic trans and it was the CD4E 4 speed and if the tag is missing then you will need the Ford part number crossed over to get the correct trans. The Part number is XXXXX

ok so with that how can i find out if its got the f83p-ca,f83p-cb,f83p-cc or the xs7p-aa or xs7p-ab trans in it?
Expert:  Ron replied 6 years ago.

It should be the F83Z-7V000-CBRM.

Ford dosnt list any other part numbers on the 1999.
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
ok but when i call about a trans they all ask me witch id number it is and without that id number they say they can't help me?
Expert:  Ron replied 6 years ago.
They should be able to cross your OE factory part number over. If they can do it, Ford may be able to if the system goes back that far. There really isnt much esle you can do. It will most likely cross over to the E83P-CB
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
well i just went and bought a trans out of a 99 contour and it looks like the right one and that is a F83P-CB so i hope that it is the right one
Expert:  Ron replied 6 years ago.
I think that is the one you need.
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
i hope so because i am paying a guy to put it in and if its not the right one i am going have to pay him twice
Expert:  Ron replied 6 years ago.

Just have him look it over real well, and make sure its identicial including the connectors before the install.
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
so if its not the right one the connectors will be diffirent?
Expert:  Ron replied 6 years ago.
Yes if the connector are not identical, don't install it.
