2002 sable: DOHC..lean..Bank 2. replaced fuel filter & MAF..fuel rail

Resolved Question:

2002 sable, DOHC, OBD codes P0171 and P0174, lean mixture Bank 1 and Bank 2. replaced fuel filter & MAF. pressure on fuel rail is normal. Is a vacuum leak the next most likely cause?

These engines are bad about vacuum leaks. there are two common spots for them to leak. The crankcase ventilation tubes (pcv tubes)on the valve covers is the most common. these are a single plastic tube running from the air intake hose to the valve cover. there is one on each valve cover, the front one is in plain sight, the back one hooks in the same spot on the rear valve cover, but is hard to see. Another trouble spot is the upper and lower intake gaskets. these leak, but not as often as the pcv tubes.
