I am trying to reset the piston in the rear brake caliper of a 2004 Mercury Monterey Minivan. I am changing the brake pads and all that is needed is to depress the caliper piston so I can reattach the caliper. How is this done?
Customer the rear caliper requires a special tool to collapse the piston. The piston needs a tool that fits into the notches in the piston. Then you spin the piston clockwise while pushing in. I have attached pictures of some of the tools:

Although I don't recommend it, you could use needle nose pliers. Just be careful not to slip and hurt yourself.

Hope this helps, if you have any further questions do not hesitate to ask.

Where can you purchase one of these tools
Customer they are available at most autoparts stores. Also, most any retailer with a large tool section should have them, like Sears. Some auto part stores like Advance may even loan them to you if you leave a small deposit.
