Hi, my name is ***** ***** am happy to assist you today. Typically this message occurs when there is a communication problem with the gear selector switch (on column) or the gear servo module that actually shifts the transmission from "P" to "D" or "R". That module is mounted on the side of the transmission and will need a mercedes diagnostic computer to read fault codes, program with new software, or program in case a replacement is needed. I would get the fault codes read as soon as you can because the gear selection may not be available next time you need to shift out of park. These are not simple fault codes stored in the engine computer that a basic scanner can read, it will have to go to a good european shop or dealership. Let me know if I can be of anymore assistance before you decide to rate me, thanks!
