We have a 1993 Mercedes-Benz 500 SEL that we are replacing

Customer Question

We have a 1993 Mercedes-Benz 500 SEL that we are replacing the radio fuse in the trunk. Should that fuse be a 30a or a 7.5. It keeps blowing and smoking
JA: Most vehicles have two fuse panels. Have you located both?
Customer: Yes
JA: Are you fixing your SEC yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: We have moved both the bose and becker amps and replaced. Worked for a while, then the fuse blew. Put in a 30 in the trunk and it smoking out of connection in the bose amp
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: Nope

hi im David, thanks for visiting the site, it should be a 30 amp fuse.

Expert:  david craig replied 3 months ago.

check the wiring to the amp, you must have it wired incorrectly

Expert:  david craig replied 3 months ago.

make sure the amp is properly grounded also

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
The wires have now melted into the plug in of the Bose Amp and cannot be removed or unpluged

sounds like the power is shorting to ground somewhere. i would check the wires from the fuse panel to the amp. if the connector wont come out then you will need to cut it off and check the power wire to ground to make sure its not shorted,

just checking in to see how its going
