Customer Question

I just replaced the starter battery in my 2007 s550 and now "abs & esp currently unavailable" comes on. Also, the car still won't start. ? Help
JA: Have you checked the battery, particularly the terminal connections? Are they corroded?
Customer: +/- connected correctly and no corrosion
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: If I can. Tried giving a jump but that didn't work. Anything else I can try?
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: No

did you replace the small battery you mean ?

you got it from the dealer it is the size of a lawn battery kind of ?

not the 12 volt one .?

why was it replaced , did the car stop starting or lost power on dash ?

have you had a diagnostic scan done ?

Please let me know

Thank You

I replaced the starter battery that's located in the engine compartment .
Replaced because the car stopped starting
No scan done

YOU REPLACED THE ONE UNDER HOOD ON PASSENGER SIDE IN THE 2ND DIAGRAM I SENT YOU CORRECT ?

THERE SHOULD BE ANOTHER UNDER REAR SEAT ,DO YOU HAVE ONE , LOOK AT FIRST DIAGRAM FOR LOCATION ?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
under the hood G1/4 in first diagram
What do you mean under rear seat ?
Expert:  Chad Farhat replied 3 months ago.

i show one look at first diagram , not all models do

it will be G1

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
That's not the battery I replaced
Expert:  Chad Farhat replied 3 months ago.

i know would you like to check if you have it ,remove rear seat ?

what is the mileage on it ?

was there any check engine light on prior to the no start condition ?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I can not remove the seat
Mileage was at about 66,000 miles
No lights were on prior
Expert:  Chad Farhat replied 3 months ago.

that is low mileage i doubt it is a major issue ,

on these models you need the scanner anyway to register the battery to the car

then i will need a scan to retrieve fault codes and post them back here , you need a Mercedes star diagnostic scanner or equivalent to communicate with the battery module & rest of module to know why st this time

if not we will be guessing why

several things could be issue here so the scan will narrow it down ?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
How can I get the scan ?
Expert:  Chad Farhat replied 3 months ago.

dealer or a local shop that works on Mercedes and has a capable scanner , i m afraid the advance or auto zone scanner only read engine codes ?

and also the esp / abs module needs scan for it it could be causing a no start condition , I would be The $100 or $120 at dealer to do full scan on the car , you will have to have it towed unfortunately

unless you know somebody with a snap on scanner, launch scanners than can come to you , these are dealership level diagnostic tools that can read and communicate with these modules ,but these scanners are $5000 and up , I have them but i have a shop and do volume off cars to justify cost of it.

Question : how can I get the abs/esp level up ?
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Is there anything I can do right now at home to get my car started if that happens I can take it to the dealership
Expert:  Chad Farhat replied 3 months ago.

what you mean the abs level up, are you talking about the brake fluid in the brake cylinder ?

is your car lowered to ground , are you referring to the suspension leveling system ?

you can try disconnecting the battery and leave for 10 minutes ,see if anything reset .it is a long shot

if not i m afraid there is no other way, if there was I will tell you ,I m sorry .

Not an S550 , you are limited to what you can do with out proper equipment I m afraid .

Alright
Expert:  Chad Farhat replied 3 months ago.

:)

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
That did not work
Expert:  Chad Farhat replied 3 months ago.

I m sorry , I m afraid we need a diagnostic scan .

wish i had a magic fix for you , i m sorry we tried all we can .

These cars ( MERCEDES) dont like to be jumped straight off the battery while connected to vehicle , it can cause other module to short out .
