Customer Question

Mercedes ML350 2009- Need the definition of actuator and if these part #'s follow under "actuator" or "Servo motor".

I have found below information as reference:

PART #1: Rear Hatch Latch Part #:(###) ###-####approx. PART #1 is Also known as “Liftgate Latch. Lock. LOCK ACTUATOR. Trunk Lock Actuator Motor.”

PART #2: Rear Hatch Pump Part #:(###) ###-#### ***** #2 also Known as “Lift actuator. PUMP. Tailgate Pull Down Motor”
http://parts.jackingrammercedes.com/p/Mercedes-Benz__ML63-AMG/Lift-actuator-PUMP-Tailgate-Pull-Down-Motor/48178559/1648003048.html

An actuator is a type of motor that is responsible for moving or controlling a mechanism or system. It is operated by a source of energy, typically electric current, hydraulic fluid pressure, or pneumatic pressure, and converts that energy into motion.

Definition of actuator

: one that actuates; specifically : a mechanical device for moving or controlling something
Reference Meriam Dictionary

The problem:  The insurance coverage I purchased, says since the mechanic called the Part #2 a pump, they will not cover that part because the name "Pump" is not listed in the coverage.  Yet "Actuator" and "Servo" are listed in the coverage.   The customer service that oversees what is covered and what is not have no mechanical expertise and they solely rely on what the mechanic calls the part.  Yet a part # ***** be called many names.  I need an expert's point of view and any references to support it. Thanks.

Hi there. Thank you for using our service.

There are several components involved in the unlocking, opening, closing and locking of your ML350 tailgate. Whatever part was replaced has a proper number and description assigned by Mercedes Benz and should be clearly printed on a label affixed to the original box. The particulars of your coverage, such as part provenance, technician qualifications, etc. are another matter

Best Regards..
