Marty, First of all, THANK YOU help before with the shifter

Customer Question

Marty, First of all, THANK YOU for your help before with the shifter (lost due to water from open sunroof) This car is driving me out of my mind.... 2003 Mercedes ML320 - VIN 4JGAB54E13A388075 1) Driving in rain I get 4 lights first three from left BAS
- ETS - ABS + check engine. 2) No change in performance in any way, drive/run fine 3) Code that came up was P0500 & P0705 Not certain when, but P0705 NEVER returned ONLY P0500 "Vehicle Speed Sensor A" 4) research pointed in several directions, so i tried a
couple quick issues a) did the cam position sensor b) tried the "brake switch" sold one, don't have one... c) removed and cleaned each ABS sensor 5) ABS seemed to be the culprit, but even local Mercedes said they could not tell which one 6) Since Mercedes
decide to give each ABS its OWN part number, "Front Right", Back Right", "Front Left", "Back left" I Decided to grab one from each side and hope to replace the right one first, return the other. I BELIEVE THEY ARE ALL THE SAME WITH DIFFERENT LENGTH CORDS,
BUT DO NOT KNOW They have different prices, $97, $59, etc... 7) Just as I was checking out, Metric Auto thought I should ask the Mercedes mechanic @ Toybox, just around corner. I missed them but spoke on phone. He stated "Vehicle Sensor A is the Transmission
Speed sensor, ONLY and always will be". So, I returned $200 worth of items and got $350.... Trans Speed sensor (the piece that the electrical hooks to. $210 and everything else needed to do it.... 5q Trans fluid, red clip, connector part inside the Speed Sensor,
oil filter, etc [GREAT video www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOF3Mas6qCU (part 1 of 2)] 8) I did it ALL and ALSO took the connector that goes into it (since it has trans oil on it) and cleaned it, wire dried it and used a blow dryer on it too. Fear that was the real
issue... it was as dry as I could get it. Wires looked OK, but had some foil wrap around it that was getting worn. 9) Side note. The Cruise control has not functioned since lights came on either. ALL LIGHTS STILL ON, cruise control still fails.... still no
performance issues. Check engine light can be cleared, but returns. Going to try an ABS, one at a time, starting at left front/ driver, then rear left /driver What can I do? I losing my A** on this thing Please help. Jeff Giacomini(###) ###-####**@******.***

Hi Jeff, the P0500 is a generic fault code for one of the left side vehicle wheel speed sensors or wiring or for the ESP control unit. Speed sensor A is the left front wheel speed sensor. You really need to get the ESP module scanned for more specific fault codes using the Mercedes Star Diagnosis tester or an equivalent factory level scan tool. The codes in the ESP will point you to the faulty wheel speed sensor. If you are unable to get it scanned and are only getting the P0500 code I'd start with the left front sensor then the left rear.
Let me know if you have any questions.

The saga continues.... got Mercedes to scan it they came up with a list, but cannot tell what is old or new, except by order. Last three codes were
C1121 L6/3 (left rea Stored speed sensor) : signal jumps
C1125 L6/3 (left rea Stored speed sensor) : Implausible Wheel Speed
C1120 L6/3 (left rea Current Speed sen and stor sor) : Line ed monitoring
Look up all codes and pointed LEFT REAR, so I replaced Left Rear.
Completed it &
ALL lights still ON..... BAS - ETS - ABS no change.
Disconnected battery overnight, cleared codes, reset steering, NOTHING no luck
I am tempted to do front left, BUT those are codes are C1100-C1105
By the way the parts they gave me for left rear was wrong part had to return & switch.
They needed last 7 of VIN (A388075)to get correct one.Still stuck in same place, $450 and 10 hours later....

Hi Jeff, sorry for the wait I have been away.
The shop should have done two scans. After the initial scan and they should have erased all of the codes and scanned it again to see which codes would not erase. If you haven't initialized the steering angle sensor I would do that by turning the steering wheel all the way to the left and then all the way to the right a few times. If you still have the warning lights I'd get the codes erased and have it rescanned.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
that was a fail. Replaced the rear driver side ABS. No go.Brought back to the Toybox repair shop and had it scanned "deep scan:" this time, cleared and re-scanned.
Here's what I've got. (NO CLEAR ANSWER)P20CA - 008

Read out faulty memory of control unit e_s_p. p 0500P20cc -*****current detection Si and store signal by com ed pairing wheel speeds. speed signal from control module ESP implausible readout faulty memory of control unit esp p1999I already tried removing the ESP clip and opening the wiring harness looking for open / bad wires, but they all appear to be ok, re-wrapped that and reconnected. No smoking gun. Put back the headlight & windshield washer holder.Other thoughts are spend another $100 on the Driver FRONT Abs, but every thing pointed to rear before.I am leaning towards replacing the ESP which I believe is the ABS Control Module (cannot find "ESP control module")
Cannot be certain of Part number since the VIN can change which ABS you buy .. perhaps same issue here. Cannot find part. THIS LINK IS AWESOME, if this is the right answer.

PLEASE LOOK AT THAT. IT IS THE PART I AM REFERRING TO.Problem is getting the PART, I see this one, looks good, but car-part and other places do not list it. It appears tro have too many names.... http://www.bonanza.com/listings/Mercedes-Benz-Ml320-430-500-55-Abs-Esp-Module-Rebuild-Repair-Service-T-Your-Unit/273652638?gpid=76983190141&gpkwd=&goog_pla=1&gclid=CjwKEAjwpaqvBRCxzIGoxs6v2TkSJADel-MIVCVjkRrrD8nUbdQC86YzA2njdIo_PsBmNPp-1BCj_xoCdBDw_wcBWhat is the part number for 2003 Mercedes ML320 VIN 4JGAB54E13A388075?
Is the ESP /ABS control unit the best answer?
What "soldering" items (people are talking about) may be bad on the ESP/ABS control module? Do I need to remove that too, to check it?
Should I try the Driver front ABS?I've done so much already trying to get those lights off (BAS/EST/ABS/CHECK ENG)
1) Checked and cleaned all ABS connections
2) Replaced the Speed Sensor in the Transmission
3) Checked all wiring in the harness to ESP/ABS clipJeff Giacomini (###) ###-####ON A SEPARATE NOTE, IT TAKES 8+ SECONDS TO START SOMETIMES, BUT I WAS TOLD THE FUEL FILTER WOULD SOLVE THAT. NEW ONE, CANNOT BE CLEANED... ANOTHER $100 GAMBLE.

2 items,
#1 I finally brought it to Sears Imports in Minnetonka. $136 for hour/diagnosis. He immediately found a loose wire I did not behind the rear driver ABS. Done.#2 I am about to change the fuel filter, BUT 2003 ML320's are a mystery. The videos keep talking about removing the back seat and it looks like a large water bottle. My part is metal and should be behind the driver rear wheel shroud. Here we go....
What does it cost for directions like you sent for the console removal on the shifter issue?
