Customer Question

I have a 2003 MB C240 sedan. The "check engine" lamp came on the other day. I suspect the oil level might be the cause. Despite best efforts using the owners manual I can't check the oil level on the display and I don't know why. There is a tiny little dipstick. Can I use that to gauge oil level? Your thoughts?

Hello, my name is ***** ***** I'm here to help get your problem solved. The oil level wouldn't cause check engine light to come on so I wouldn't worry about checking oil. At this point you will want to have diagnostic codes checked which needs to be done using a scan tool. Your local parts store will check the codes for free, then you can write them down and reply back to this answer without additional fees. With code I can tell you possible/common causes, testing/repair information, and costs. Let me know if you have more questions, thanks.

Thanks Dan,
Think I'll refer this one to my local MB mechanic.Chuck

No problem, if vehicle runs good then it is likely a minor emission related problem. I'd expect around $300-$500 for repair costs. Let me know how it turns out or if you run into questions. Thanks again and have a great weekend!
