I have a 2009 S550 with 14,000 miles. The first big service was performed this Spring. On vacation in Maine and several days ago noticed a whine or growl when turning. My first thought was power steering but some on-line inquiry suggests wheel bearings. No MB service closer than 50 miles. Another 800 miles and a week till back home?is this something that must be taken care of before thatThanks,AJ

Hi,welcome to Just Answer.Feel free to ask any follow up questions if needed. My help is based off of the info provided and I will try to answer your question as best as possible.I just need a little more info to assist better.Do you hear this noise with the engine running when sitting still and turning the steering wheel or does the vehicle have to be moving down the road before it makes this noise?Let me know so we can continue, thanks Pete.
I will try it! Stand by.
Sounds good,let me know.
Ok, just tried it and no unusual noise when stationary but also no unusual noise when driving and turning. Perhaps it only occurs when the car is cold and has not been driven for a while. I just drove about 15 miles an hour ago
If it only occurs cold then it may be power steering related,if you re check it cold and it does it stationary as well as when driving then most likely this is power steering related.I dont suggest driving the vehicle to far in either case whether it is power steering or wheel bearing at fault as this can cause more damage and also in some cases leave you stranded as well. This should be checked into as soon as possible to locate what component is causing this,it may be a steering leak that needs corrected and then the fluid topped off.Its hard to say for sure from here exactly what has failed but it does need checked over to locate the fault.A local shop can check it over if needed.Let me know if you need anything else here. Please rate my answer,3 to 5 stars is appreciated as well as positive feedback.Pete41132.6944080208
