MB 560 SL year 1986. 140000 milesI am considering having the single timing chain converted to a double timing chain. Is this a wise thing to do on this vehicle? How much should I expect to pay? What other work and parts should I do and replace while this part of the engine is apart? What parts of the engine should be evaluated while the engine is apart? Approximately how many hours does a job like this take?

Hi, the 560 SL always had a dual chain. No conversion is needed. I would however recommend a preventive insection of the upper chain guide rails. If a rail breaks it can cause the motor to jump timing and bend the valves.
I would estimate 6 hours labor to replace the upper timing chain guide rails, the chain and the chain tensioner.
