I have a 1998 mercedes slk which the immobliser has refused to let the car start. No power to the fuel or starter ,all light on dash etc and the cooling fan at full speed. Is it possible to override the immobliser as this same fault happened 6 months ago, so I put it on the back of a truck and it bounced 20 miles to the garage for repair . On arrival at the garage all was working it started straight away so fault could not be found. It has been working ok since ,and the only thing in common was it was not started for 10 days both times........Any positive clues please. Richard

Hi Richard, there is no way to bypass the immobilizer but this sounds more like a bad K40 relay. When the relay fails you have no starter operation, no fuel pump and the fan runs on high. I'd substitute a known good K40 relay for this problem. The relay is located in the passenger side module box next to the battery under the bonnet. It's the relay with the fuses in the top of it. This is a very common problem on the SLK.
Hi Richard, your reply did not come through. Can you try again?
can you buy these and rough cost?
Yes you can, part number 210 540 00 72, Relay. Retail $192.

sorry got cut off . do you think it could be a bad connection?
The bad connection would be inside the relay itself.
A good electrician may be able to open the relay and resolder the circuit board.
ok thanks I will have a go
