Customer Question

I have a brake and/or transmission problem in my Mercedes Vito 113 automatic. Occasionally under braking the brake pedal goes really hard and the van is slow to stop. I was travelling slowly on a gravel road yesterday and wanted to stop, pedal went hard and van would no stop creeping forward with rear wheels locked up and skidding under full braking, had to move the gear selector from drive to neutral to stop. Any help would be appreciated.

Diagnostics Engineer :

Hello,
It seems that vacuum pump or brake booster are failing. This can cause hardness in the pedal. Please listen carefully- maybe you can hear air leak noises from the booster area under the bonnet or instrument panel.

Diagnostics Engineer :

If the van is skidding sideways, ABS must be checked for proper functions. Also maybe one of the wheels is locking uo.

Diagnostics Engineer :

regards,
Stan
