Country: PhilippinesMake: Mercedes-BenzModel: S320Year: 2000 Already Tried: manual key boot release
Hi, did you insert the key in the trunk lock and rotate the key counterclockwise and hold it in that position while trying to open the trunk?
Yes I did. no luck
i even followed exactly what the manual says. 10'o clock and press on cylinder. no luck
ive also tried cigarette car charging, no luck
lets skip the key part. is there another way to open the boot or jumpstarting the car?
The only way to open the trunk is to power the car from the battery junction block under the passenger side front floor or by accessing the starter or alternator and connecting there.
do you have any pictures on how i can do that?
Once you get power to the junction block or the alternator you can then use the remote to open the trunk.
I can show you a picture of the junction block.
is it easy to do?
Not really
any other way?
You will need to remove the carpet and then a panel that covers the junction block.
ok, how to i get power to that?
With jumper cables. If you are not mechanically inclined you should not attempt this.
Do you know how to use jumper cables?
yes, i do
are there red and black markers too?
postive and negative markers so i know where to connect them
There are no markers. There is only the positive cable at the junction block.
You will need to connect the negative cable to a metal part on the car or one of the ground cables on the floor.
got it
You will probably see a clump of brown wires bolted to the floor. Those are ground wires.
do i need to remove any wires from the junction block or i can directly attach the postive from the working battery there
You can connect the negative jumper cable there.
You do not need to remove any wires.
Just connect the positive jumper cable to the big cable on the junction block and look for the brown ground wires on the chassis and connect your negative cable there.
could i just connect the negative to the door of the car or metal part of the car
?
yes
as long as it's unpainted.
thank you. is it hard to remove the carpet?
Click on the image above for an example of the ground wires.
You can also see a little bit of the metal cover that you will need to remove in order to access the junction block.
so i need to slice any wires? is the ground wires insulated that i need to slice them so i can clamp the negative of the working battery there?
The carpet insert pulls out and then you peel back the other carpet from the front.
You don't cut anything.
Just connect the negative cable to the stud that the ground wires bolt to.
ok. will try it then
hold on for 5 mins
let me check on it now
pls
It's going to take you longer than that.
I will be close by.
ok, i found the front passenger side
seems to be covered by a metal plate
silver metal plate
screws seems to be different
are there special tools for that?
correct on the plate
I think they might use torx screws down there.
do i need special tools for that?
Yes
Or you might be able to get a small flat screwdriver in there to turn it.
It would have to be a perfect fit to grab part of the screw.
ok, pls give me 10 minutes. let me try it now. sorry
ok, I'm going to step away for 10 minutes.
opened the panel
saw the red cable
cant seem to see the brown wires though
give me 5 mins
il describe to you what i see
ok, cant seem to find the brown wires
also, cant clamp down the positive clamp to the junction box bcause it is screwed down, not enough space for the clamp to lock in place
You can connect the ground to any bolt that you see there that seems to be bolted solid to the chassis.
ok, so i should just on to the clamp? cant lock the clamp into place. not enough space
All you need to do is hold the cable against the stud of the positive cable while a helper operates the remote for the trunk release.
ok, will do, thanks! give me 15 mins
ok
worked! thank you! so do i just put in the new battery?
thank you so much!
Fantastic!
Don't close the trunk lid when you remove the battery!
I'd either replace it or get it charged and tested.
excellent! so i need to open the engine hood?
when i remove the battery?
No, the battery is in the trunk.
Just leave the trunk open while the battery is out so it doesn't lock on you again.
oh yes, understood
what about reprogramming everythin? do i need to do it?
can i manually reset everything without a computer?
Yes, no computer needed.
Start the car and turn the steering wheel all the way to the left and then all the way to the right a few times to turn off the ABS light.
Run your windows all the way up and hold the switch an extra 2 seconds to reset the windows. You may need to also do it in the down direction.
Raise the back of the sunroof and hold the switch an additional 2 seconds.
run all windows
yes, one at a time
ok. thank you so much. you have been a great
help
you're quite welcome
so thats about it? i shouldnt worry about anything else?
