Dodge - Sprinter 2500: transmission problem - Once or twice

Customer Question

transmission problem - Once or twice a day when I start up my 2008 sprinter automatic (2500) will suddenly have no power - I have tried to put the truck in netural or manually downshift to a lower gear - the only thing that works is to stop the truck and restart the engine - then the power returns. Just very annoying when I am in traffic.

Michael Warfield :

Have you had any fault codes scanned yet?

Michael Warfield :

There are two things that usually cause this problem. 1. Is the egr valve sticks open, dumping boost pressure into the exhaust instead of the engine. 2. Is the inlet port shut off flaps stick, causing not enough boost pressure into the engine. Usually both of these items will code up in the CDI engine computer, not necessarily setting a check engine light.
