1985 380SL: brake pedal..engine rpm..acts..a bit low on brake fluid

Resolved Question:

I have a 1985 380SL and my brake pedal just recently goes almost to the floor. It is hard to even back out of my garage because the engine rpm is too highand it acts like it wont stop.
I looks a bit low on brake fluid. What type should I use?? Should I just have it towed in for service or should I take a chance and see if the fluid level is the cause of the problem by adding more??

eurotec :

Hi

eurotec :

Did the engine rpm increase at the same time that the brakes went out?

Customer:

No, it will run at higher than normal periodically . I think it is caused by a motor mount problem??

eurotec :

Ok, then I suggest that you don't risk driving the car.

Customer:

OK

eurotec :

It's possible that you have a brake system leak under the car somewhere or you may have a bad brake master cylinder and you could lose your brakes completely while driving.

eurotec :

Even if the low fluid is the problem there is a reason that it got low. It's best if you tow the car to the shop for an inspection.

Customer:

I will have it towed. Thanks.
