2000 ML320: the ESP/BAS light comes on after the car reaches

This answer was rated:

Hi, I have a 2000 ML320 with 138000 miles. My problem is the ESP/BAS light comes on after the car reaches 25mph and stays on till the car is turned off. No other symptoms. Cruise control works fine as does everything else. I have replaced the brake switch and no error codes are displayed. Any help troubleshooting this problem would be appreciated. Thanks.

Do you mean that you have no fault codes? What kind of scanner are you using?

Customer: replied 6 years ago.
Hooked up trouble code reader to connector under steering wheel.
I have a feeling your scanner isn't capable of retrieving codes from the esp control unit. The ESP light shouldn't come on without storing some kind of fault code. I would have the vehicle scanned with a star diagnosis machine. A european repair shop should at least have this capability. When you retrieve the codes, let me know and I will help you with the diagnosis. I have a feeling it is still a wheel speed/ABS sensor even though the cruise control works.

I picked up a scanner that does abs.

Error code is C1142 Later acceleration sensor B24/2 or sensor B24/15

The lateral acceleration sensor underneath the center console has failed. It is a common failure and the center console will have to be removed. A shop should charge around 1.5 hours labor and $100-150 for the sensor. If you need help replacing the sensor let me know.

I will replace the sensor.

Is there anything I need to do after it is installed to adjust?

Nope, just erase the code.
