You should only use factory Mercedes power steering fluid

The only other approved fluid is
Pentosin CHF 11S

I was hoping one more commonly sold (ATF or DEXRON III) would be acceptable. No?

I would be doing you a disservice by not following factory recommendations. Mixing different types of fluid could contaminate your Power steering pump and fluid and cause early failure. If you were in a pinch you could probably get away with regular ps fluid sold at the parts place. I would only recommend this in a emergency then I would tell the customer to have the system flushed and refilled with the correct fluid ASAP
