In the case of a woman who has been on adderall for right at 15 years , and then is abruptly forced to quit the medication or loose her doctor at 19 weeks pregnant, i just want to know if there was an easier way for this to be accomplished. and also could the stress from that have comntributed to her blood pressure problems which ultimately resulted in a 24 week old remature baby

Long-term use of Adderall should never be discontinued abruptly or cold turkey as this can lead to severe withdrawal symptoms, including increased anxiety and blood pressure, as you have noted. Typically if Adderall were to be discontinued it should be done in a slow and methodical tapering schedule to reduce the chance of withdrawl symptoms. In addition, if withdrawal symptoms like increased anxiety and blood pressure were noted than the use of a benzodiazepine like Clonazepam, Lorazepam, or Diazepam could be used with minimal risk to the fetus and would lower her blood pressure to normal levels.
