I am a licensed Advanced Practice Psychiatric nurse in private practice. Can anyone tell me the new DSM coding for Dysthymia? and ETH addiction?

DoctorZ :

Hello I believe I can help you with your question

DoctorZ :

The new DSM-5 coding for Dysthymia is 300.4. Also it is now called Persistent Depressive Disorder (Dysthymia), so the name changed as well

DoctorZ :

And I am looking through the book now for the coding for ETH, just give me a minute for you

Customer:

Thank you . had to give insurance co answer stat and I am awaiting my new book.

DoctorZ :

And amphetamine use is no longer in the DSM-5

DoctorZ :

It is now called Stimulant Intoxication

Customer:

Meant ETH whicih is alcohol thanks

DoctorZ :

Oh Im sorry you meant alcohol, ETH is different where I am from. We use it when referring to crystal meth

Customer:

no asking about alcohol dependence

DoctorZ :

They dont have dependence or abuse qualifiers anymore in the DSM-5

DoctorZ :

What they do have is Alcohol Use Disorder, Mild (305.00) Moderate (305.90) and Severe (303.90)

Customer:

Ok then how do i code it I know they have overuse or addicted right?

Customer:

Oh just saw it thank you... so on my forms I just use the new DSMV dx. right? very confusing. Some companies here in NY have not required this yet Thank you

DoctorZ :

It depends, some insurance companies are not requiring it yet you are right, but they will eventually. So I would give preference to the DSM-5 diagnosis and specify that you are using the DSM-5 for diagnosis.
