Customer: My dose of celexa is 20 mg. I have continuous thinking day and night.
Dr Vikas :

Thanks for you reply. Kindly also answer the other questions so that I can give you a suitable reply.

Customer:

I have had trouble sleeping for the last year. My doctor put me on temazepam 30 mgs. which allows me to sleep 4-5 hours.

Customer:

I am also on verapamil 180 mgs per day with clonidine .1mg bid for hypertension. I am starting to get mentally eshausted from my brain not shutting down and resting. My doctor ordered the celexa for depression/anxiety

Dr Vikas :

Thanks for your reply..

Dr Vikas :

I am going to suggest a treatment modification about which you can discuss with your doctor.

Dr Vikas :

You are having difficulty in sleeping therefore adding a sedating antidepressant can be a very useful option in your case. Your doctor can consider the option of adding a low dose of Mirtazapine (Remeron) 7.5 mg at night along with Celexa. Remeron is a very sedating antidepressant which is specially indicated in patients complaining of trouble in sleeping. Remeron itself is a very effective antianxiety and antidepressant medicine and thus will also augment the effect of Celexa.

Dr Vikas :

After adding Remeron, there will be no need to take Temazepam in my view, which can be taper down and stopped by your doctor.

Dr Vikas :

Please feel free to discuss further if you have any doubt or query regarding my suggestion.

Thank you for the information I will ask my doctor about adding remeron. I am still concerned with my brain unable to stop thinking all day and all night even while I am sleeping, What is causing this. They are nit bad thoughts, just continuous thought. Please answer as soon as possible. I value your feedback

Phyllis,

Obsessive rumination is a disorder in which patient experience continuous, intrusive and repetitive thoughts. Possibly you are also experiencing the same.

You can ask your doctor to rule out obsessive rumination in your case. Don't worry, if it is indeed obsessive rumination, in that case also, simply increasing the dose of Celexa by your doctor can be very helpful. Remeron will also help in controlling these thoughts.
