what is lorazapham mostly prescribed for & what are the side effects please.

Greetings !

Welcome to the site.

Well lorazepam belongs to the class of benzodiazepine drugs and it's main uses for which it is prescribed are --

1) As an anti anxiety agent in anxiety disorders , panic attacks and phobias and mixed anxiety depressive illness.

2) As a sedative for inducing sleep in cases of insomnia.

3) as an anti epileptic / anti seizure drug to counter fits/seizures.

Some core side effects are excessive sleepiness, dizziness, weakness and unsteadiness, memory impairment , confusion , loss of coordination, confusion, disorientation, tremors, vision problems like blurred vision and double vision.

Having said this it is not mandatory that all the users shall develop one or more of these side effects, in fact it is only handful of users who develop the side effects , so this should not discourage you from using lorazepam and I will suggest you to base your verdict on the usefulness of the drug or it's adverse effects based on your experience from it's use.

I hope this helps.

Wish you all the best.
