I suffer from panic disorder. I take .5mg every four hours as needed. I took .5 at 8:30am .5mg at 1230pm .5 mg at 6pm and was supposed to take another .5 at 10 I couldn't remember if I took it or not and I was feeling very anxious so I took .5 at 1130. Am I safe in taking this if I did take the pill at 10pm? Did i just overdose? Pls I'm panicking over this. Thank you
Seeking expert counseling is a sign of strength. A personal relationship with a caring professional is proven clinically effective.
I believe that I can help you.
First of all I will take a wild guess and so you are talking about alprazolam aka Xanax, since you forgot to mention what drug you are taking.
If you are standing by please respond.
Also, you say you are taking "it" every four hours as needed.
Shouldn't that be every four hours OR as needed?
Don' panic. You haven't overdosed.
So is it ONLY as needed?
No you have not.
However, you could be taking a better drug.
Ativan (lorazepam) is a benzodiazepine best for GAD (general anxiety disorder).
Xanax (alprazolam) is also a benzo best for Panic Disorder which is a form of anxiety.
Both are habit forming, so it is best to take them AS NEEDED only, rather than on a 4 hour schedule.
Either will lose effectivness if you use too much and you could develop a dependence.
There is one other benzo also good for panic disorder, a bit milder, and that is Klonopin (clonazepam) which is good for sleeping because it stays in the body longer than Xanax.
I urge you to talk to your physician and ask him to change to Xanax or Klonopin because they are indicated for panic disorder, which is what you need to be treated for.
You are safe now. Your extra dose will do nothing more than make you a bit more sleepy if you indeed took it.
Don't worry. Talk to your physician about changing meds. It should not be a problem.
You will be fine, and I shall keep you in my prayers.
I am sooooo happy to have been able to help you and ease your worried mind.
You are very welcome. :)
