My daughter took herself off of Lexapro about a month and a half ago--she was on it for anxiety and panic attacks. She is 23 years old. She was doing fine until a week ago. Now she cannot stop sobbing uncontrollably. She wants to talk to someone before just getting back on medicine. She lives in El Dorado AR. I have given her numbers to a LPC (who hasn't returned the call) and South Arkansas Regional Health Center (who can't see her until the 13th). She wants to talk to someone now. Can you give me some resources?

Elliott, LPCC, NCC :

Seeking expert counseling is a sign of strength. A personal relationship with a caring professional is proven clinically effective.

Elliott, LPCC, NCC :

Dear friend,

Elliott, LPCC, NCC :

I am so sorry to hear about your daughters apparent breakdown into depression.

Elliott, LPCC, NCC :

I believe that I can give you some resources who can help her.

Elliott, LPCC, NCC :

I am working on it right now.

Elliott, LPCC, NCC :

Please give me a few minutes.

This is related to the Presbyterian Church, but she provides professional licensed counseling.

Customer:

This is the person I have already referred her to. She has left a voicemail on both her office and cell phone yesterday, and sent an email today.

Elliott, LPCC, NCC :

Would you like me to search a bit further afield, beyond El Dorado?

Elliott, LPCC, NCC :

Rev. Spooner will surely reply to you.

Elliott, LPCC, NCC :

What is the closest larger town to you?

Customer:

Is there a walk-in clinic in El Dorado that she might be able to go to? I don't think she will drive beyond El Dorado. I don't think she is being reasonable about waiting for an appointment because she wants to talk to someone now.

Elliott, LPCC, NCC :

I have found some more in El Dorado

Customer:

Okay--where?

Now you have some options

Elliott, LPCC, NCC :

How else can I help you?

Customer:

Thank you so much. One more question: Do you feel that an LPC is the best professional for her? She was going to a psychiatrist before, but he only prescribed medicine and was too busy to talk to her about her feelings. I know she needs counseling too.

Elliott, LPCC, NCC :

Psychiatrists usually do not give therapy. An LPC or psychologist would talk to her and help get to the base causes of her condition. Drugs only mask symptoms, no cure disorders.

Elliott, LPCC, NCC :

I shall keep her in my prayers.
