Is it possible to have both Social Anxiety Disorder and Schizoid

This answer was rated:

Is it possible to have both Social Anxiety Disorder and Schizoid Personality Disorder or can symptoms of the latter be explained by having the former?

It is possible for an individual to have multiple disorders as diagnosis. It is also possible to have traits of disorders but not meet full criteria for a specific diagnosis.
With personality disorders, there would be a pervasive pattern of symptoms that have existed for a long time. Since, personality disorders are not per se cured (but symptoms can be managed to an extent as these are too concrete).

In a case of social anxiety, the individual suffering from it can desire social interactions but feel anxious in these. An individual with schizotypal personality on the other hand would not necessarily desire social contact or close interaction with family or even friends. It would be unlikely for an experienced professional to misdiagnose with the latter if the former diagnosis is more plausible. A person suffering from social anxiety can still maintain close relationships with other individuals and be interested in being socially connected as much as their symptoms allow them to.
