Have been on cipralex for three months aa
10mg feel fine but now want to get off. Can I simply go off?

Dr Vikas :

Hello,

Dr Vikas :

Cipralex (Escitalopram) should not be stopped abruptly as doing this may lead to discontinuation / withdrawal symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, tingling sensation in body, anxiety, headache etc.

Dr Vikas :

It is always recommended to taper it down slowly

Dr Vikas :

Most patients are able to tolerate the 50 % dose reduction for 4-6 days followed by another 50 % reduction for next 4-6 days and then discontinuation for example if a patient is taking 10 mg per day, he or she can reduce the dose to 5 mg per day, take it for 4-6 days then can further reduce to the dose to 2.5 mg per day, take it for another 3-5 days and then discontinuation.

Dr Vikas :

You can discuss with your doctor about this tapering schedule and this should help.

Dr Vikas :

Please feel free to discuss further if you have any other query.
