Hi. Thanks for using JustAnswer! I would be more than happy to chat with you about this. Can you tell me has this person been diagnosed and if so with what? Are they in therapy? Have the medications still being taken? Are they wanting to change? What is the age of the person?
I have been diagnosed with bipolar and personality disorder. However, at the time, I was not fully honest with my doctor. No I am not in therapy. No, I am not currently on medication. Yes, I definitely want to change. I am 34.
okay great! The first place to start would be getting a full evaluation by a psychiatrist and to be honest. They are not mind readers and can not help you with your symptoms unless you are fully honest with them. It sounds like you know that and are willing to be honest this time. It can also be helpful to keep a journal of your symptoms so you can give the most accurate record of what is going on. Sometimes when we get in front of the doctor we get nervous or we have felt fine for a few days so we are not necessarily lying but just kind of forget what we are really going through. If the medications were working last time I would suggest giving them a try again bipolar especially can be very manageable with medications. The next thing I would suggest is getting into therapy. This can prove to be very very helpful in both bipolar and personality disorders because it gets down to making changes that can be used in life. Especially with your desire to change therapy can prove very beneficial. Thoughts?
