I have a friend who is about 40 that has been seeing bugs of some sort that she says have tentacles and when angered flash with light. I'm worried about her. She has been under a lot of stress because of family troubles for some time now. What might this be? and where can I look for more info.

This sounds like visual hallucinations. If she has been under a lot of stress and if she's depressed, that can trigger a psychotic episode. If that may be the case, consulting with a psychiatrist for medication would be the first option.

You can focus on the fact that her experience is bothersome to her and offer a suggestion as to how to get better.
