My mother in law 75yrs has had sudden onset of persistent hallucinations

Resolved Question:

My mother in law 75yrs has had sudden onset of persistent hallucinations and paranoia that began 2days ago. I live in Texas she lives in Charleston, SC. I have tried to convince my brother in law to take her to the ER for immediate evaluation, but he is hesitant. I fear there may be an underlying physiological problem. Would like your advice and guidance.

Hi,

Due to the sudden onset, this could be a medical problem. She will need a thorough exam with blood work. I would encourage him to take her to the emergency department as soon as possible. After the medical issues are ruled out, she can then under go a thorough psychiatric evaluation. Please let me know if you have further questions. Gina
