Hello,

I am not a physician but am well acquainted with psychotropic medications. Amitripylione is an older tricyclic antidepressant and Venlafaxine is a new SNRI anti depressant. In general caution should be used when two seratonin agents are used concomitantly. That being said the prescribing doctor is the best authority on his choice of using 2 such psychotropic agents. In addition the pharmacist is also an excellent resource when it comes to drug interactions. I am including a link for a drug interaction checker so that you may get more detailed information: www.drugs.com/drug_interactions.html .

Sincerely,

Ralph LMHC
