Touched starved people, cause of marasmus

This answer was rated:

Touched starved people, cause of marasmus

I have never heard or read anything about Marasmus being caused by lack of touch or physical nurturing, other than failure to thrive in infants who are not touched. Marasmus in adults usually refers to malnutrition due to poor diet.

Adults who are not touched in a loving way certainly suffer, but not from Marasmus. Adults who are touch-starved will suffer from self esteem problems, issues of confidence in social situations, and may become quite depressed or anxious.

If I had to take a stand on this, I would suggest that depression is the result of lack of touch from loved ones and family.

Thanks so much. We have been married for over 44 years & it seems that she just never can touch me. I noticed prior to our marriage but at young age we think we can change people, it just doesn't happen. I am not a very good romantic, but I have asked for hugs etc. I get it, but it never offered !!!

Thanks again, Redleg
