What is the relationship between Tic Disorder and Impulse Control

Resolved Question:

What is the relationship between Tic Disorder and Impulse Control Disorder such as exibitionist?

A tic disorder is a rapid occurring, nonrhythmic, motor or vocal movements. Tourette's syndrome is an example of a Tic Disorder.

Impulse Control Disorder ranges from Intermittent Explosive Disorder, Kleptomania (stealing), pyromania (fire-setting), and dermatillomania (skin picking), etc. Impulse Control Disorders area a part of the Obsessive Compulsive Disorder group.

Logically, there is no relationship between the two disorders, but, elements of each disorder may present themselves at any time

I apologize for not stating my question with clarity. The small amount of research I've done on the internet leads me to believe that a Tic Disorder in a person's childhood could sometimes lead to an Impulse Control Disorder in that same person's Adulthood. It is like two trains running down the same track. The mind tells the person that there will be no relief from their torment until they perform the Tic action. That same person's Adult mind runs the same track with an Impulse Control Disorder. I guess I'm looking for someone who has read more extensively than I on this subject. Can you advise me on how to find more reseach.

As stated elements of any problem can lead to different behaviors. A Tic Disorder is more prone to be a neurological dysfunction caused by some motor or auditory problem. Usually generated while under stress.

Impulse Control Issues can occur from a variety or reasons such as abuse, alcohol and drugs, ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, etc. Can IMC issues come from a Tic Disorder? I guess anything is possible, but not likely.

I would go to the American Psychological Association's web site at

http://www.apahelpcenter.org/ and

http://allpsych.com/disorders/dsm.html

I hope this helps.
