Hi Gill,

I suggest that you make an appointment to see a clinical psychologist to have an iniital evaluation done. You can find a number of a psychologist in the phone book. The psychologist will be able to make an appropriate referral for medication if he or she feels that you could benefit from meds. My suggestion would be to seek out therapy first.

Without an evaluation by a qualified psychiatrist or other qualified health professional it would be impossible to determine the best treatment approach. Some patients do need medication, while others are best treated with counseling. In most case a combination of counseling and medications is the best approach.

Your county mental health clinic or local emergency room should be able to help you if you are having a crisis.

If you are having a emotional crisis - you can go to the closes emergency room and they will make arrangements for a psychiatric evaluation and a psychiatric admission if necessary.

Justanswer.com does not offer treatment and is not a referral service. You need to see a psychiatrist through a local hospital or clinic.
