Dt 530 in a 4400 ih. loses fuel and won't start when it sits

Customer Question

dt 530 in a 4400 ih. loses fuel and won't start when it sits for a few days. give it a shot of ether and it fires right off. i have been told fuel pressure regulator is bad causing fuel to leak back to the tank.
JA: We'll do all we can to help. Is there anything else the Heavy Truck Mechanic should be aware of?
Customer: truck seems to run well and has good power. on occasion it seems as if it has a slight stutter at about 15-1600 rpms when under full load in the top 2 or 3 gears. if you shift at too low of an rpm. if i let it wind out and keep the the rpms up above that you never notice it.

Thanks for the update. Check the fuel line between the tank and pump for restrictions or leaks causing a starvation of fuel by installing a clear hose inline to watch for bubbles indicating air in the system or fuel bleading back to tank. Install a mechanical gauge to watch for a drop in fuel pressure as well. Low fuel pressure can be caused by leaks, restrictions, faulty transfer pump or pressure regulator. Let me know
