I just did a compression check on my c5500 service truck and found #8 cly is 120lb low need to pull valve cover do I unbolt cac and try to raise to get room or do I have to pull motor???? Jack

No you need not pull the engine

but what is cac

was going on a 4 hour trip when engine starting to run bad making a clinging nose like a rocker arm. white fuel smoke out exhaust. pulled back to shop pulled #2 wire off injector smoke stop but still had noise, done gm wire up grad on #2 and#8
still had noise, pull all 8 glow plugs all had 400lbs except #8 at 300lbs. this is a chev. C5500 durmax no room to get injector or valve cover off can cab be jack up on one side? or what else do we do. Thanks Jack

With this hew info , it might be to your advantage to pull the engine,

Reason I say this is I believe that you may have a valve issue

on #8, may have to pull the head, and hard to do in truck

So I suggest pull the engine

raised cab and got top cover off to check lifters and push rods see no problem???? drain oil don't see any thing in it what know?? with sound coming out it was like a rocker arm or push rod,??

Well them you have a piston issue on that cylinder

sounds as a the skirt on the piston may have broke

or wrist pin came loose, putting a score mark in the cylinder
