I have a caterpillar 289c with some air conditioning issues.

Customer Question

I have a caterpillar 289c with some air conditioning issues. The air works fine when the a/c clutch is engaged, but the clutch is working very intermittently. It will stay locked maybe 30 seconds and then unlock for 30. I have checked the wiring on the compressor and it's losing hot when it cuts off, so I know it's not the compressor. Also have tried jumping over with a jumper wire both the high pressure and low pressure switches, with no change. I do know that the clutch is supposed to cut on and off,but this machine is doing it 3 or 4 times as often as our other machine. Blows cold air fine as long as the clutch is locked. Thanks

I also had a buddy of mine add freon this summer....and it didn't seem to change anything. It took very little

Hi I'm Wayne

I will help you with this

The issue you are having is called short cycling

things that cause that

High head pressure

air in the system

moisture in the system

condenser running hot

Low Freon

I suggest that you hose down radiator and condenser

from both sides with garden hose

if that does not help, recover freon, replace the Drier

evacuate to 300 microns , or 29 in vacuum

then recharge with correct amount of freon

I hope this helped you

The condenser is filthy from a broken hydro line earlier in the year, but this problem has been going on for about 2 years. The problem is the condenser on the skid steer is located in front of the motor, but behind the Hydro tank. So it's next to impossible to get to with a garden hose, or even air. Can I take the lines off the condenser and remove it and clean it and Replace it? I don't know much about a/c

HI

Yes you can do that but wear protection

as this is charged with freon, so you are going to loose it

according to the EPA, your required to recover it in a container

DO NOT GET ANY WATER INSIDE OF IT , TAPE OFF ENDS VERY GOOD
