Customer Question

I have a GMC 4500 cab over with an Isuzu 4HK1TC Engine in it. Changing the fuel pump and have a question. Trying to establish the process of getting cylinder #1 at tdc and installing this pump correctly. There is only one marking on the front pulley assy. but all documentation points to there being two of them and make sure it is set at the first one.....

Hi I'm Wayne

I will help you with this

remove the valve cover and bar engine over

when the valves are both closed on #1 cylinder

if 1 is down and other up

Is #1 cylinder closest to front of engine.... Correct? Also, if I am reading the correct procedure to install the new fuel pump... Bring #1 to tdc then line up fuel pump marks to housing and install.....

If I understand correctly... The vavles on #1 when the cylinder enters the compression stroke... They will be closed for the entire stroke. TDC is at the end of compression... Just the valves closing does not tell you TDC

HI
Yes both valves up
push rods loose , tells you
you are TDC

I checked this out as you suggested. This engine has an overhead cam! So there area no push tubes...... Can you please check and see which valves are intake and which are exhaust and what is the process to get this engine on TDC
Expert:  Wayne replied 1 year ago.

HI

OK just make sure the 2 valves on #1 are both closed

1st will be intake, 2nd exhaust

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ok... That is how I am setting it up... I watch the intake totally close then as soon as the exhaust is totally closed I stop. I am going to try and install the pump at that position. It is CRAZY that the pulley has no markings for this position on it as it is suppose to! It is only marked on the position that is not suppose to be used..... a few inches higher.

HI
Thank you for that
yes do it that way
