I have been nauseated and having watery since Tuesday night.

Customer Question

I have been nauseated and having watery bm since Tuesday night. I thought it was a reaction to a new medication until my daughter threw up once Wednesday morning and my son once yesterday morning. Everyone just feels generally run down and has a headache. We are definitely better than when it first started but not all in the clear.
JA: Is the headache episodic or daily? And what about nausea?
Customer: Daily. It's milder than the previous day's.. For both
JA: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?
Customer: No, aside from the fact I have an 11 week old as well.

Hello, this is Dr. David. I am reviewing your question now and will be with you momentarily.

it sounds like there is a GI virus going around in the house causing nausea and watery diarrhea.

everyone with diarrhea should get imodium or kayopectate to try to slow down diarrhea.

everyone should be drinking more fluids and gadorade to replace fluid lost by diarrhea.

everyone should be washing their hands frequently with soap and water before eating, after bathrooms, after blowing their nose to prevent virus spread to each other.

At what point do I worry about this not being a simple virus?
Expert:  Dr. David replied 12 days ago.

if the diarrhea doesn't get better in 2-3 days and still stays watery

if you can't drink in enough water to replace water lost in diarrhea.

if anyone gets lethargic or low in energy and can't get out of bed, this can be a sign of severe dehydration and need for IV fluids.
